What did you do this summer, Bruce?

I went to Iceland where the rainy winds blew
28 meters per second / 68 mph
on Vestmannaeyjar.

The sun came out and the baby eider ducks,
said hello in Breiðafjörður,
the same species of duck and bay where
Days of the Ducklings was photographed.

I bowled Icelandic fishing style in Breiðafjörður.

I enjoyed a midnight meal by the midnight sun
with good friends, including Friðrik who will
be in next spring's Going Fishing from Houghton.

I photographed a new book in Akureyri
and worked on others
while living for the month of July in Davíðshús,
the former home of one of Iceland's late great poets.
Read about it here.

I also wrote an essay about one of Iceland's finest artists.
Read the essay here.

I visted the northermost town in Iceland, Siglufjörður,
and talked with the fine artist and my good friend Gunnella
about our forthcoming book,
The Problem with Chickens.

On the streets of Akureyri
I ran into Margrét, the now-grown star
of My Horse of the North.

I went hiking in the north with my good friend Óli,
the father of Halla in Nights of the Pufflings.

And enjoyed some of the finest weather in years
like here in the north or in Reykjavík,
where I was there for the hottest day ever recorded.
24.8 degrees Celsius / 76.6 Fahrenheit
Other than that it was just a regular summer.
