On a bright sunny afternoon Bruce McMillan was the honored keynote speaker.
The Value of Libraries

Including many references to libraries and reading in Iceland, his personal life-long history with public libraries, and remarks about the Parsons Memorial Library, Bruce McMillan spoke to the centennial gathering. Sprinkled in his talk was an anonymous Chinese proverb, "To read a book for the first time is to make an acquaintance with a new friend; to read it for a second time is to meet an old one," and also the twentieth century quotation, "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read," from Groucho Marx.
